| 2011 (November)- Tokio Marine Indonesia supports underprivileged children of KKS Melati with a sewing machine and some cash donation |
JAKARTA. - Nov. 27, 2011 – Although the sad incident in Japan on March 11, 2011 insisted the Japanese to face a truly hard reality, this incident also made them recognize the importance of the bond among family and friendship. Many Japanese now believe the tie of family shall be top prioritized among any kinds of value. And the Japanese would also never forget the support given to them from friends throughout the world.
To show their gratitude and appreciation towards their friendship in Indonesia, the Japanese society in Jakarta decided to hold this year"'"s "Jakarta Japan Matsuri" under the theme of "'Thank You Indonesia'". And Tokio Marine Indonesia (TMI) decided to actively participate in this event, by forming a booth on September 25, 2011 (the final day of the festival) at Monas.
In TMI booth, the volunteers prepared two activities; one was to let the visitors taking a picture with a "Sakura" or "Golden Temple" background, by lending the visitors a Japanese traditional “Yukata”, and another activity was to make thousand origami cranes "Senbazuru” that would be sent to a school in Kesennuma, the devastated area of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. This thousand origami cranes are meant as a token of Tokio Marine Indonesia’s sympathy and prayer for the recovery of the earthquake victims in Japan. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes would be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. For every crane which was made, it was valued IDR. 5,000.- that would be donated to KKS Melati. Throughout the day, TMI collected more than 1,400 cranes.
On November 27, 5 TMI volunteers visited KKS Melati to celebrate for their 10th anniversary and to handover some gifts in the form of a sewing machine (considering their current one is broken) and some cash donation, while having some exchanges with the kids. The 20 above kids from the age of 4 to 15 were all welcoming us with their sincere hospitality and big smiles. They kindly sang some Bahasa songs for us, while Mr Mitsutaka Sato (our PD) taught them some simple Japanese such as how to introduce their names, how to say "Arigato", etc. All the kids, their smile gave us a big encouragement and energy. Besides this “Senbazuru”, we have also decided to buy some paintings drawn by the kids in KKS Melati, as a sympathy gift for the kids in Kesennuma, which would also become a supporting activity for KKS Melati< |

| 2011 (August) - Tokio Marine Asia group "CSR Day" |
Jakarta (8/6)- PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia (TMI) management and employees donated school supplies, used books and other useful items to support children activities of KKS Melati as part of its participation to Tokio Marine Asia Group CSR Day 2011.
In 2011, Indonesia is experiencing blossoming economy. Yet despite rapid developments, in the middle of this hype we can find children whose family still experiencing economic hardships. These children are often living in a small house in small alleys of the city where the whole activity of the family packed in one little room. These children also often already have to earn their own living by selling newspapers, cigarettes and singing on the streets. They’d rather buy food or clothes when they have extra cash while buying books is considered unachievable luxury. This difficult situation hinders the children’s ability to develop their imagination and creativity.
A lot of people consider that education is the cure for poverty, this include KKS Melati, a social organization devoted to helping children on the streets and in the slums. Yet as a pathway to learning, first we need to grow the children’s reading habit. For the purpose, in 2005 KKS Melati opened Taman Baca Melati (Melati Reading Room) in a densely populated area in Ampera, South Jakarta. The public library carries thousands of children book titles and is often full of children during weekends. PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia is also a believer in the idea and to support the cause as its participation in Tokio Marine Asia Group CSR Day 2011.
The company cooperates with the labor union to invite everyone to donate used books and other useful items to be used by the children through KKS Melati. The campaign held during the first week of August and it turns to collect more than what being anticipated. Besides used books, clothes and bicycle, we also donated brand new set of school supplies (bag packs).
Mr. Mitsutaka Sato, President Director of PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia, said: “We are delightful to be able to contribute to the children and hoped that our donation will be useful for more time to come”. Ms. Virgina Veryastuti, one of the founders of KKS Melati, said: “We thanked Tokio Marine Indonesia for their donation as it will be beneficial for the children”.
PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia is thankful for the support given by its employees and the Management and hoped to collaborate with the organization to support the unprivileged children on other opportunities in the future |

"Impossible is Nothing! you can achieve your dream, if you want to. The key is to never give up, keep passionate, put the best effort and don’t forget to pray"
That was the inspirational words said by Kemal Malik Lubis, TMI Scholarship recipient, to 60 of his juniors at Rumah Belajar (Learning House), a school for the unprivileged children founded by Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) at a motivational seminar, themed 'Impossible is Nothing', which is organized by TMI as its participation on Tokio Marine CSR Month worldwide event which focuses on the unprivileged children.
Kemal is a graduate of Rumah Belajar from previously dropped out of school to assist his mother financially by selling newspaper in the morning and washing motorcycles on weekends. Kemal, who’s successfully worked his academic achievement from initially in the middle of the thirty scholarship students to become top three by the end, went on to secure the competition to become TMI staff. Now, Kemal work as Marketing Staff at TMI’s Shariah Branch.
Taking advantage from the timing of Kemal’s completion of study under TMI Scholarship program, PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia is delighted to present the fascinating story of Kemal at the motivational seminar.
Mr. Mitsutaka Sato, TMI’s President Director said "Kemal's ability to turn life's adversities into opportunities. From what it seems impossible to go to college considering his under privileged background, to later successfully graduated within top 3 of his class and then hired as an employee, proved that 'Impossible is Nothing'."
"We believe that Kemal’s fascinating story would be beneficial for the students of Rumah Belajar to inspire them to keep passionate and never surrender in reaching their life’s goal." He added.
After Kemal's presentation, as a token of appreciation, the students gave a powerful percussion performance, which matched perfectly with each other. Another main event was a futsal competition match among the students and an exhibition match between TMI and School staffs. At the event, TMI also handover "Angel of Change" donation to support educational activity at Rumah Belajar.
Throughout the event, we are so impressed of each student's beautiful smile. Furthermore, we can feel the new spirit of the students by end of the event, which makes everything worthwhile. It was truly a wonderful event for all of the participants. |
